Mickaboo is feeling the same financial crunch as the rest of us and has had to stop intake of birds for now.

At the same time, the government is issuing tax rebates, the point of which is to stimulate the economy by encouraging spending.

Please, consider donating a portion of your tax rebate to Mickaboo so that we can reopen our doors to the birds who so desperately need our assistance.  By doing so, you can help both stimulate the economy and give a needy bird a second chance at a good life!

Volunteer

Mickaboo is experiencing a steady increase in the amount of birds brought to us for placement. As a 100% volunteer organization we rely on our volunteers to transport, house, and care for the birds until permanent homes can be found. We have volunteers all over Northern California, and some in Southern California. At this time we cannot expand our operations out of the state of CA, but please read on for more ways you can help if you are out of state.

Volunteer Opportunities

General Equipment/Space/Labor
* People with trucks or vans who can help us transport cages
* People with cars and time that can help transport birds
* Places to store cages and other equipment
* Help us clean out our storage facility in Pacifica

Fundraising
* Help staff tables at rescue/animal events
* Help with flyer and poster distribution for fundraising events
* Individual fundraising efforts like passing the hat at your workplace or school

Technical
* Development assistance for our production databases and website
     (Required: Perl, Mysql, Apache & Linux/UNIX knowledge)
     (Bonus: JSP/Java knowledge)
* Java client development for our tracking software
     (Required: Java development experience)
     (Bonus: Linux/UNIX knowledge)
* General technical assistants to help create accounts, manage membership, etc
     (Required: Some technical experience or fast learner)
     (Bonus: Experience w/ UNIX command line)
* A Mac OSX technical person to help port our client applications to Mac
     (Required: Very good familiarity with Mac OSX or willingness to learn)
     (Bonus: Applescripting / Shell scripting experience)

Getting the Word Out!
*Take Mickaboo flyers to pet stores, vet offices, and animal shelters on a regular basis
*Help create public service announcements for television and radio stations
*Create, update, and/or print flyers for ongoing fundraising efforts, special events, classes, educational purposes, and so on

Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue is a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status. We spend on average of $8,000 to $10,000 a month on vet care for our birds. We are funded by donations, grants, and adoption fees.  We are staffed entirely by volunteers, so your donation goes directly to providing medical care for our needy rescue birds. If you would like to help us with our cause by donating money we would greatly appreciate it. 

We accept donations on-line through Network for Good from either your credit card or checking account. It is quick and easy and best of all it is safe and secure.

Donate Your Vehicle

Help Mickaboo's birds, easily get rid of your old vehicle, and obtain a tax write-off all at the same time!  By donating your car, truck, RV, or boat, you will be making a vital contribution toward rescuing birds in need and avoid the headache of selling a used vehicle.  Mickaboo will receive 70% of the net proceeds from the sale of the vehicle while you save money at tax time!

Our representatives at Car Program LLC, the organization that oversees this program, will make all the arrangements for towing, title processing, receipt distribution, appraisal if required, sale at auction
or dismantler, accounting and distribution of sale proceeds to Mickaboo.  Your car doesn't have to be in
working order and can generally be picked-up at any location in the continental U.S. and Hawaii.  To
donate your vehicle, call toll free at 1-800-237-5714 and designate Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue as your
charity.

Ongoing Fundraisers

Pet Food Express "My Mutt" Program

If you donate $250 to Mickaboo, Pet Food Express will send out a professional photographer to take pictures of your bird.  They will also create a poster of your bird (with Mickaboo's name mentioned) and hang it in the window of a Pet Food Express store.  Here's an example of the beautiful poster created for Thornwood, the budgie!

Funds for Feathers!

Is your bird molting? We know of an artist who will pay us for "almost perfect" molted feathers (any size). The feathers should be carefully checked for wear and tear, placed in a plastic bag or envelope and mailed to P.O. Box 697, San Jose, CA 95106-0697 . We will send them to the artist!
